Over two sunny days in June several High Point students
trailered to
Wavertree Hall in
Afton, Virginia, to ride as sample students for the
United States Eventing
Instructor Certification Program.
Phyllis Dawson, of
Windchase, and a U.S. Eventing team member and participant in the 1988
Olympics in Seoul, South Korea, conducted the instructor program for five
candidates. Eventing instructors must be proficient in dressage, show jumping,
and cross county jumping.

Me and Don Diego.
Would you believe that he is only 4 years old?
On the first day, Terry Adcock and three other event
riders came from
Oakdale Equestrian Center in Powhatan to ride as students. They were joined
by my eventing student Susan Petty-Jones and myself riding Grace’s younger
brother, Don Diego. On day two, Joseph Swartz and Elizabeth Gathright trailered
in to help out the instructor candidates.

Eventing instructors are tested on their
ability to teach dressage basics and movements such as shoulder-in, leg yield,
turn on fore hand, and lengthening at trot. We were happy to demonstrate how
well we could already perform these exercises. |
