Great American Insurance GOOP!
The USDF Region One
Finals, sponsored by the Great American
Insurance Group comes around every other
October in Virginia. This year after
months of drought, the Rain Gods decided
to catch up. Nobody complained, we
really needed rain.
Here are our horse
show heroes showing the other riders how
it’s done. None of my students scratched
a class, they just rode with care and
their scores reflected their efforts.

Cheryl showing
energetic balance on a not so happy
Tjerk. This is her practice ride
before her Championship Final. She
won this with a 70%.

Lovely up-hill
balance in this canter. The footing
on the hill held up despite the
puddles. |

Ruth Hewitt and
Maki swim through this corner at
canter. Ruth at 14 qualified on
Thursday for the 2008 BLM’s with a
69.6% and 2nd Place. |

It rained
continuously for two days. The
riders unprepared, rode in the rain
gear they brought.
Here is Jody
showing off his red dressage attire.
Notice Apollo, his ears up and
happy. They scored a 60.% in this
training practice test despite the
rain. |
On Saturday the
rain finally stopped leaving muck.
Although the sun was out, both Ruth
and Jody own Wintec saddles and of
course they were still soaked. The
muddy slimy muck made the going
labored and high percentage scores
were hard to achieve on these tired
horses.

Beautiful Maki, the daughter
if Elizabeth Gaithright’s mare ‘Thing’ Maki is a
TB/Connemara cross and this is her
first recognized dressage show. Ruth
Hewitt is riding, she is 14. She and
Maki ribboned in 5 of her 6 training
level classes and qualified for the
2008 BLM Championship with a 69.6%
in training level test 3. |

Eileen Kenny rode
the dutch horse Maykel, owned by
Debbie Watson. At 2nd level each
day. Eileen is pursuing USDF
Instructor Certification and
borrowed Maykel to get her required
2nd level scores. Although they
encountered problems in the
collected canter, they are on their
way. |

The 2007 Region One
Finals
Joseph Swartz and
Rainbow Radiant Apollo his Friesian
Morgan cross gelding place 21st in the
class of 34 with a score of 61.6%
This is a great shot
of Apollo going nicely to the bit. Jody
was at a bit of a disadvantage this year
because Apollo was injured and not
cleared to ride until after the closing
date of this show. Competition is never
fair, we will try again next year. |
